Dumb Money

Dumb Money Movie Poster

I am really intrigued by this weekend’s movie. It’s called Dumb Money. This is the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop (yes, the mall videogame store) into the world’s hottest company. I remember people talking about this on Reddit a couple of years ago. Now, I’m not a regular follower of the stock market, but even I was intrigued by this story when it was happening. As best as I can tell, there were hedge fund companies “shorting” Gamestop stocks due to its low sales. A bunch of people on Reddit thought the company was being undervalued and started buying which drove up prices and put these large hedge funds in jeopardy. In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill (Paul Dano), who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich — until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.

Dumb Money is playing at the Falkon Theatre this weekend (Oct 20-22) and all show times are at 8:00PM.

So often I hear complaints that Hollywood never puts out anything new. Everything they do is re-runs and sequels. Well this is your opportunity to show them that new movies can also do well. Reviews of Dumb Money have been very positive from critics and audiences.

Dumb Money‘s crowd-pleasing dramatization of real-life stock hijinks may not tell the complete story, but it’s rousingly entertaining nonetheless.

Smart and funny, Dumb Money breaks down the complicated details of its real-life story in an extremely enjoyable way.

Not to mention this movie has an amazing cast including:

Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine)
Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live)
America Ferrera (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Superstore)
NIck Offerman (Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec)
Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin from Daredevil)
AND

Seth Rogan
