Napoleon on a Horse

Napoleon was a very interesting man. He lived from 1769 – 1821, so he was just 51 when he died. Since I’m 54, I think 51 seems like a very young age to die. He was a French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century.

One of my favorite books, the Count of Monte Cristo (written in 1844), is set in France during the time of Napoleon. The backdrop of the book is around the Royalists (those supporting the king) vs the Bonapartists (those supporting Napoleon).

Did you know that Napoleon discovered the Rosetta Stone. Now held in the British Museum in London, the Rosetta Stone is a granite slab carved in three scripts: hieroglyphic Egyptian, demotic Egyptian and ancient Greek. It played a vital part in deciphering Egyptian hieroglyphs and has long been considered a hugely important artefact. Less well known is the fact that it was discovered by Napoleon’s soldiers during the Egyptian campaign in 1799.

Napoleon is showing this weekend at the Falkon Theatre this weekend (Dec 15 – 17). All shows (Fri, Sat & Sun) are at 8:00PM.
