Napoleon Facts 2
In 2008, when my wife and I were in Paris we toured the Hôtel de Invalides.
In the 17th century, Paris was full of demobilized wounded soldiers without resources, who hung around the streets and increased insecurity in the city. Hôtel de Invalides was commissioned in 1670 by Louis XIV in order to provide accommodation and hospital care for wounded soldiers.
In 1815, after Napoleon’s abdication, over 5,000 survivors of the Great Army were living there. Napoleon inspected the place and visited his men in 1808, 1813 and 1815.
Today this is where Napoleon’s body is interred.
The first photo is one I took of the Hôtel de Invalides, the second photo is a photo of Napoleon’s tomb which is under the dome of the building.
Napoleon is playing at the Falkon Theatre this weekend (Dec 15-17) with all show times (Fri, Sat & Sun) at 8:00PM.
