Civil War

You do not want to miss this weekend’s (May 3 – 5) movie event Civil War. This is the movie that everyone will be talking about at work on Monday. Don’t be left out!!! (All showtimes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday are at 8:00PM)

My son, who lives in Regina, went to this movie last week. When I asked him how it was, his response was “Holy ****, I loved it!”

Civil War is a journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

Civil War is by studio A24, which if you’ve read my previous posts, you know is one of my favorites. They love to make movies that other studios shy away from and this movie looks like one that the regular studios wouldn’t have touched.

Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman) stars in this movie and also has Nick Offerman (Parks & Rec) playing the president. The director, Alex Garland, has also done movies such as Ex Machina and 28 Days Later.

The scariest part of the film isn’t the gunfire, explosions, death, or destruction. By far the film’s scariest feature is the watching of one’s world crumble with nothing in the way of recourse. (https://boingboing.net/author/roy-christopher) The director, who also wrote the script, is non-partisan in his approach to the story, emphasizing the cruelty of the movement, and the actions of the extremist militias, not the politics. You are not going to want to miss this pulse-racing film as Garland is forcing the audience to have an opinion without telling us what we should think.

Runtime: 1 hour 49 minutes

Rated R for strong violent content, bloody/disturbing images, and language throughout
