Based on one of the internet’s most popular horror concepts, Backrooms follows a man struggling with alcoholism and a failing marriage, now spending his nights at his furniture store.
When he stumbles upon an unsettling alternate world of endless rooms in his basement, he enlists the help of others to document their impossible discoveries and encounters.
Rather than trying to explain everything about the concept, the film follows one focused story while leaving plenty of room for the strange possibilities and speculation that made the broader idea so popular.
It is produced by A24, arguably the studio most responsible for the resurgence of quality horror over the last decade. This might be their most impressive and entertaining movie yet, as it became their highest-grossing film ever in just two weekends. They brought together some great actors, including Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Duplass (Creep series), and it sounds like a very well-made movie.
Whether you’re familiar with the lore or completely new to it, Backrooms is going to be a unique experience that people will be talking about for a long time.
